ASDA - comment

The market share numbers are ugly, but are baked into expectations. The job of getting customers back onside is going to take longer (two quarters) and cost more than management expected when the plan was originally announced. On its recent call, ASDA management guided for higher marketing expenses as the company uses price support to entice shoppers back. However, management projections are no closer to what we had initially expected. We also see adequate liquidity at ASDA, and the capability of raising further cash from sale and leaseback transactions. The Christmas Trading period will see profit sacrificed for volumes (via price subsidies) as management tackles the fallout from availability issues in Q3.
