Our key takeaway from INEOS’s announcement of €300 million in grant aid from the French state is the scale of support industries are receiving, and will continue to receive, to accelerate decarbonisation. Earlier this week, the French government confirmed that seven industrial projects, including INEOS Naphtachimie (Lavera site), were selected to advance CO₂ emissions reduction. INEOS Lavera was awarded €297m, with recipients receiving both investment and operational support over 15 years in the form of annual payments.
While the direct financial impact is modest, compared to €20m p.a., the broader state aid framework is likely to bolster confidence in the European chemical industry.
