Morrisons - comment

Morrisons’ new instant delivery service will not significantly impact volumes. Morrisons Now is not intended to replace the weekly shop (online or in-store), but it does offer an additional customer channel, and the £4.50 delivery fee will help offset Morrisons' costs of delivery and picking. It is not yet clear whether there will be any price differential between the app and the store, or whether in-store discounts will also be available on the app (we suspect not). Fulfillment of orders from a store is inefficient, but the investment in real estate, staff, and other costs has already been made, so from an accounting perspective, the incremental costs are small. Instant delivery isn’t a new concept; apps like Just Eat and Deliveroo already offer grocery delivery.
