Consolidated Energy - comment
Last week, the US dropped the 15% tariff on fertiliser products from Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), which will protect the profitability of its Fertiliser plants (including that of CONSEN). Also, last week, Nutrien decided to shut its 1.7 million tonnes per annum fertiliser plants in T&T; the natural gas supply previously used by Nutrien is now being parcelled out amongst the other firms in Point Lisas. which is a positive for CONSEN’s own fertiliser methanol plants. Nutrien has cited supply issues in its decision, although CONSEN maintains that the new natural gas supply agreements signed in 2024 have resolved its supply issues.
Long-term, the natural gas supply to T&T will be supported when the Manatee field comes online in 2027. The Manatee field contains 2.7 trillion cubic feet of gas, and Shell is progressing development of the field. Progress could be disrupted if tensions between the US and Venezuela continue to rise in the near term.
